Have A New CNC Machine In Your Shop? 4 Things You'll Need To Know About Your Coolant

Industrial & Manufacturing Blog

If you run cnc machines in your shop, you need to keep on top of the coolant. Like the engine in your car, if your cnc machine doesn't have the proper coolant, it could overheat. Unfortunately, once your cnc machine overheats, you could be looking at significant damage. In fact, depending on the severity of the overheating, you may need to replace the entire machine. That's why the coolant is so important to your machine. Here are four things you'll need to know about your coolant.

Choose the Right Concentration

When it comes to choosing a coolant for your cnc machine, it's crucial that you choose the right concentration. The type of machine you have, the level of use it receives throughout the day, and the specific work it does, will all help determine the concentration you'll need for your coolant. Choose a concentration that is too weak for your machine can lead to additional problems, and could increase the likelihood of malfunction. Not only that, but it won't provide the proper degree of cooling that your machine will need while it's in operation.

Don't Ignore the Foul Odors

Clean, properly functioning coolant should not have a distinctive odor. However, as the coolant becomes contaminated from use, it can begin to develop a foul odor. The odor is caused by the buildup of bacteria, which can lead to the deterioration of your coolant. If your coolant begins smelling like rotten eggs, it's time to flush the system, and replace the coolant. Avoid using additives to mask the foul odor. Those additives can ruin your cnc machine.

Understand the Residue Consistency

As the coolant breaks down, you'll begin to notice a residue buildup in the machine. The residue is caused when the water evaporates and leaves the coolant behind. You can tell a lot about your coolant, and your machine, by looking at the residue. In fact, the residue will tell you whether you're using the right coolant in your machine. If you're using the proper coolant, the residue will be soft and fluid-like. However, if the residue being left behind is sticky, gummy, hard, or even crystalline – like rock candy – you're using the wrong type of coolant for your machine.

Take Care When Mixing Your Coolant

Your coolant will need to be mixed before it can be added to your machine. If it's not mixed properly, it could cause your machine to fail. To ensure that your coolant is mixed properly, you should invest in an automated mixing device that will ensure the right proportions of all the ingredients during mixing.

Dumpster Rental After a Residential Remodel

Recently we did a home remodel of the bathroom and kitchen. We needed an efficient way to haul away the accumulated debris. Dumpster rental was our practical solution for residential waste removal. Although dumpsters of various sizes were available, we chose the 20-yard model. It measured about 20 feet in length and 42 inches in height. With a capacity to hold a few tons of waste materials, this option suited us fine. We especially liked that the dumpster was delivered to our property and picked up at our specified time. By not having to park the dumpster on the street, we didn't have to worry about acquiring a permit. Less hassle and stress is fine with me. The dumpster rental also included the transfer of recyclables to a recycling facility. Next time you need your trash hauled away, why not consider dumpster rental as a practical solution?
