Assembly Tips For First-Time Users Of JIC Hydraulic Fittings

Industrial & Manufacturing Blog

If your machinery is being modified and you need to safely join together two high-pressure hydraulic hoses for the first time using a flanged JIC fitting, then these tips will help you:

Tip: Choose the Right JIC Fitting for the Job

One of the most important safety aspects of using a JIC fitting to join two high-pressure hydraulic hoses is that you purchase a fitting made of the correct material. JIC fittings are manufactured with many different metals, including:

  • brass
  • carbon steel
  • stainless steel
  • nickel-copper alloys

When you shop for your new fitting, make sure you purchase the one rated for the pressures you will subject it to.

Tip: Inspect the JIC Fitting and the Hydraulic Hose Connections

Before attempting to install a JIC fitting, you need to carefully inspect it for damage. Make sure there are no damaged threads or other manufacturer defects. Installing a damaged JIC fitting can lead to injury or death if it fails during use.

Tip: Use a Wet Torquing Technique to Join the Fitting with the Hose Connections

When your fitting is ready to be installed, you must plan to wet torque the connection. By lubricating both hose connections, the JIC fitting, and your "O" rings with hydraulic fluid before connecting them together, you will get a much better and more secure seal. As with other high-pressure fittings, wet torquing makes up for the differences in fabrication materials of each piece and leads to a much stronger hold with less future leaking.

Tip: Line Up the Connections and Hand Turn

When all of the various pieces have been lubricated, then they should be lined up and put together. To do so, connect the fitting to one end of the hydraulic hose and hand-tighten it in place.  Once the connection is tightened, then connect the other hydraulic hose. Turn all of the connections as tight as you can by hand before you get out the wrenches. This is a very important step because it prevents misalignment and thread stripping problems that will ruin your new JIC fitting or hose connections.

Tip: Torque the Connections to Their Intended Values

Finally, once the new fitting is in place and you can no longer hand-tighten it, then it is time to wrench it down tight. You should torque the connection only to the manufacturer's stated value and if you have a wrench pad installed, then you absolutely need to use it. The wrench pad will prevent any movement and force the fitting to tighten.

Dumpster Rental After a Residential Remodel

Recently we did a home remodel of the bathroom and kitchen. We needed an efficient way to haul away the accumulated debris. Dumpster rental was our practical solution for residential waste removal. Although dumpsters of various sizes were available, we chose the 20-yard model. It measured about 20 feet in length and 42 inches in height. With a capacity to hold a few tons of waste materials, this option suited us fine. We especially liked that the dumpster was delivered to our property and picked up at our specified time. By not having to park the dumpster on the street, we didn't have to worry about acquiring a permit. Less hassle and stress is fine with me. The dumpster rental also included the transfer of recyclables to a recycling facility. Next time you need your trash hauled away, why not consider dumpster rental as a practical solution?
