Water filters give your home or business fresh, drinkable water that tastes good, but the filters don't work by magic. You have to maintain them, especially the actual filter portion. And the maintenance extends outside the water filter system, too, if there are other systems that affect your drinking water.
Changing and Washing Filters
Like your air conditioning filters, the filters in the water filter system will lose effectiveness over time because they'll become clogged or too dirty to work well. Set up an appointment with yourself monthly (or sooner, if needed) to inspect the filters and clean or change them as needed. If you are dealing with invisible pollutants like chemicals in the water, regularly changing the filter will provide peace of mind.
Test Your Water
It helps to know what you're trying to filter out of your water so that you can not only install the right type of filter but also so that you know how often you really need to replace something. If you're dealing with a bunch of grit, for example, you'll need to clean filters a lot -- but if you're dealing with lead in an old building (despite the move to lead-free pipes, the solder at the pipe joints in older plumbing systems often still contains lead), you'll need filters you can change outright.
Maintain the Softener System
If your house has hard water and thus has a softener system installed, don't forget to maintain that because if you neglect it, the mineral buildup can clog up your filtration system. For example, if you forget to maintain the softener -- let's say a salt bridge builds up so that the water flowing through the system remains hard and full of minerals -- those minerals can then flow to all the sinks and clog up the water filters there.
If the filter system is a whole-building unit that is installed before the softener system (i.e., water entering the building hits the filter first and then the softener), poor softener maintenance can make it seem like the filter is no longer functioning.
If you've been maintaining your water filters as best, you can and still think there's a problem with the water quality, contact a filtration company. You may need a new version of your filter system or a different one entirely. Or there could be a hidden problem that will not take long to fix. Having good-tasting water that isn't full of lead, grit, and other substances are worth the call.

Recently we did a home remodel of the bathroom and kitchen. We needed an efficient way to haul away the accumulated debris. Dumpster rental was our practical solution for residential waste removal. Although dumpsters of various sizes were available, we chose the 20-yard model. It measured about 20 feet in length and 42 inches in height. With a capacity to hold a few tons of waste materials, this option suited us fine. We especially liked that the dumpster was delivered to our property and picked up at our specified time. By not having to park the dumpster on the street, we didn't have to worry about acquiring a permit. Less hassle and stress is fine with me. The dumpster rental also included the transfer of recyclables to a recycling facility. Next time you need your trash hauled away, why not consider dumpster rental as a practical solution?
