Solventless Extractions
Solventless methods, as the name suggests, do not use any external solvents. Instead, they rely on heat, pressure, or water.
Rosin Presses: These devices apply heat and pressure to cannabis material, producing a resinous sap. This method is loved for its simplicity and the purity of its output.
Ice Water Extraction: By agitating cannabis in ice-cold water, trichomes are broken off and then sifted through mesh bags. The end product, often called "bubble hash," is then dried and can be further processed or consumed as-is.
Safety First
While the prospect of extracting your own concentrates can be tempting, it's essential to remember the importance of safety. Solvent-based extractions, especially those using butane or propane, can be particularly hazardous without the right knowledge, setting, and equipment.
